Eastern Indigo Snake

Appearance: 

 

The eastern indigo snake can grow to over 8 feet in length.  Indigo snakes are shiny blue-black, but the chin, cheeks, and throat may be red or rusty brown colored.  However, some indigo snakes lack the reddish coloration and have white, brown, or even black chins.

Habitat:

Eastern indigo snakes can be found in almost any habitat in Florida.



Behavior: They are nonvenomous and state and federally protected as a threatened species.
